LEADERSHIP
TRAINING
Copperbelt Ministerial College
In 2006,
Stephen Gambill and James Williamson visited Zambia for the
first time, and began a relationship with several faithful pastors
there. It was during this trip that the idea of developing modular
training in Zambia for pastors and ministerial students was first
discussed.
Stephen and James returned in April of 2007, finalizing preparations
for the first course of a new leadership training school, Copperbelt
Ministerial College. The board of the college was established, with
Pastor Kabwe M. Kabwe and Pastor Choolwe Mwetwa as the two key leaders
for the college.
The college
was established to meet on a quarterly basis, with students
doing reading assignments and course work in between the sessions. This
enables students to retain their regular job while getting their
ministerial training.
Having established a syllabus and course schedule, the first “module”
for training occurred in July 2007, with Jim Savastio of RBC Louisville
teaching Pastoral Theology 1 and Austin Walker of Crawley, England
teaching History of the Reformation. With support from the churches, a
classroom was finished on the site of the Grace Baptist Church, which
is where all training sessions are now held. Since the first courses in
July ‘07, the modules have been conducted four times a year, with
Zambian pastors teaching the fourth quarter courses.
LION of Zambia
sends two instructors per module for the week long
training sessions. Each instructor teaches a course consisting of 12-15
lectures. Past lecturers include: Jim Savastio, Austin Walker, Conrad
Mbewe, Ronald Kalifungwa, Sam Waldron, Richard Barcellos, Ronald
Baines, Robert Elliott
and others. Currently, about 25 students are enrolled in the College.
Copperbelt Ministerial College is a four year degree program, in which
courses in systematic, exegetical, historical, and practical theology
are taught.
You can view a
prospectus for the college here.
COMING SOON: We hope to upload lectures and lecture notes for some of
the courses which have been taught thus far.
Future Training in Lusaka
In early 2010,
James Williamson and his family plan to move to Lusaka
to be involved in residential ministerial training and pastoral work
there. Read more about their plans here.
There are several men in this capital city area who are training for
the ministry, and James will be involved in mentoring and instructing
these men.
